Seamless
Branding in Shopping For Love
Melbourne's
WTFN Entertainment is leading the way in branded entertainment, with the second
season of Shopping For Love soon to air on Channel 9.
Major sponsors include Virgin Money, Chadstone The Fashion Capital, Crown, Ansell,
RSVP.com.au and Red Circle.
"Branded entertainment is becoming a bigger part of Australian television.
We've specifically chosen products that integrate seamlessly with Shopping
For Love," Executive Producer Steve Oemcke said.
Mr Oemcke said the television industry had been "gun shy" of branded
entertainment, because of previously poor audience responses to advertorial-type
programs.
"Audiences are sophisticated and discerning. They are wise to advertisements
dressed up as television shows. What you have to do is make a TV show with brands
seamlessly integrated into it, and above all make it entertaining," he said.
The hit show of last summer, Shopping For Love drew a national weekly audience
of nearly one million viewers for Channel 9, which Mr Oemcke said proved the audience
accepted brands in the show.
"By its nature, Shopping For Love is a game show, so it requires prizes.
Each part of the show fits in with the related brand. For example, they go shopping,
they need a place to shop and they need money, so that’s where Chadstone
and Virgin Money come into it," Mr Oemcke said.
The second season of Shopping for Love will start on Friday December 8 on Channel
9, "at the naughty time of 10.30pm, due to the risqué nature of the
program" Mr Oemcke said.
